The Open Risk Manual is now available also as an Android App

The Open Risk Manual is an open online repository of information (wiki) about risk management in all its forms. The Manual is developed and maintained by Open Risk. Our objective is to create a comprehensive, detailed, authoritative collection of risk management resources that are easily accessible by anybody, anywhere - well, network access is currently required!

The Open Risk Manual (ORM) is primarily a technical resource, constructed by and for professional risk managers. Yet the Manual is open to anybody interested in understanding this important knowledge domain. The scope of the knowledge base is not fixed precisely. It spans the range of risk management practice, including financial risk management, specialized quantitative approaches. With a new release we aim to make the ORM more accessible by creating an Android app version. This post explains a bit more what this is about.

The Open Risk Manual is powered by the MediaWiki software. Mediawiki is a Web Application (maybe one of the most impactful ones ever created, as this is the same software that powers Wikipedia!). Web applications obviously require access to the web (a functioning internet connection). While originally they were developed having in mind desktop or laptop web browsers, in recent years they have also adapted to be usable on mobile (smartphone) screens. One can use for that purpose special mobile phone browser apps.

ORM Available at the Google Play App Store

Another way of accessing Web applications via the phone involves creating a special application (that can be downloaded and installed from an App Store).

While the ORM Android App still requires an internet connection to search and fetch article entries, access and usability is improved. After you install the app on your mobile phone upon first opening it you should be greeted by the following Main Page (minor variations in appearance might be possible in different mobiles):
